When it comes to selling children’s items, a little cleaning can go a long way.

At Gear Up, we say:

CLEAN = CASH!

Shoppers are much more likely to buy items that look clean, cared for, and ready to use.

Here are 5 simple cleaning tips to help your items stand out.

1. Wash Clothing and Linens

Clothing, coats, costumes, pajamas, blankets, and linens should be freshly washed and free of stains, odors, pet hair, and heavy wear.

Check zippers, snaps, buttons, and seams before bringing items to the sale.

Shoppers want items that are ready to wear, not items that need repairs.

2. Wipe Down Toys and Baby Gear

Toys, strollers, high chairs, play kitchens, ride-on toys, and outdoor items often collect dust, crumbs, stickers, and mystery kid residue.

A quick wipe-down can make a big difference.

Clean items look newer, feel more valuable, and are more likely to sell.

3. Make Sure Pieces Stay Together

If a toy, puzzle, game, or baby item has multiple pieces, keep everything grouped together.

Use bags, zip ties, or secure packaging when needed so shoppers can clearly see what is included.

Complete items are much more appealing than loose or missing pieces.

4. Give Shoes Extra Attention

Shoes can sell well, but they need to look clean.

Wipe off dirt, check the soles, and secure each pair together.

A clean, organized pair of shoes is much more likely to be noticed by shoppers.

5. Make Large Items Look Ready to Go

Large items can be great sellers, but they should look ready for a new family.

Before drop-off, clean items like:

  • Bikes

  • Scooters

  • Strollers

  • Wagons

  • Play houses

  • Ride-on toys

  • Furniture

  • Play kitchens

Remove dirt, wipe surfaces, check for missing pieces, and make sure the item is safe and functional.

A few extra minutes of cleaning can help your items sell faster and increase your final paycheck.
