6 Secrets to Successful Pricing

Pricing can feel like one of the hardest parts of selling at a children’s resale event.
Price too high, and shoppers may pass over your items. Price too low, and you may feel like you are not getting enough value back.
At Gear Up, you are always in control of your pricing, but these tips can help your items sell.
1. Start Around 80% Off Retail
For most gently used children’s items, we recommend pricing around 80% off the original retail price.
That may sound like a big discount, but shoppers come to resale events looking for great deals. When an item feels like a clear bargain, it is more likely to sell.
2. Price Like a Shopper
Before choosing a price, ask yourself:
Would I be excited to buy this at this price?
If the answer is yes, you are probably in a good range.
If the answer is no, consider lowering the price.
3. Price Higher for New-in-Box Items
If an item is brand new, unused, or still in its original packaging, it may be worth pricing higher than a typical gently used item.
New-in-box items can stand out to shoppers, especially if they are popular, giftable, or seasonal.
4. Price High-Ticket Items Differently
Large or premium items may not need to follow the same pricing rule as everyday clothing or toys.
Examples include:
Wonderfold Wagons
BOB strollers
Guardian bikes
High-end baby gear
Large outdoor toys
Play houses
Play kitchens
If the item is clean, current, popular, and in excellent condition, you may be able to price it higher.
5. Remember That Clean Items Feel More Valuable
Presentation matters.
A freshly cleaned stroller, neatly folded jacket, wiped-down toy, or clean pair of shoes will almost always make a better impression than something dusty or rushed.
Clean items feel cared for. Cared-for items feel more valuable.
6. Remember the Goal Is to Sell
The goal is not to bring everything back home. The goal is to turn outgrown items into income and clear space in your house.
At Gear Up, every item has the opportunity to sell at full price and then at 50% off during half-off day. That gives your items two chances to find the right buyer.
When in doubt, price it like you would be excited to find it.
